The Small Frye are at Hawksnest today, and the Tarpon are following them!

Today was as clear and sunny as ever.  There was a nice breeze in Cruz Bay and most of the day was about 85 degrees.

Very noticeable that the pathways at Hawksnest have been cleared of the branches that fell during Georges.  Looks perfectly beachy again.

The dark water that is visible from the shore is a huge school of small frye.  These tiny fish seem like they are only a silver stripe.  I put on my mask and got into the middle of them.  It was easy--they were thick all the way from Hawksnest to Gibney--further than that, really.  On the way over, I saw tarpon, each about 4' long, swimming below me.  Once I saw 6 of them!  but most of the time there were only 2.  As the tarpon swam through the thick cloud of frye, the tiny fish parted, clearing a nice wide path for the big fish to pass through!

There were very large rays, gliding across the bottom, looking happy and satisfied.

Also looking happy and satisfied today are the lizards which might very well have suffered a touch of indigestion from gobbling up all those post hurricane mosquitos!  That's how it works in Paradise.

The Virgin Islands Daily News reported on Saturday that American Airlines has lowered air fares to the VI for travel completed before October 31st.  One way weekday fares between NYC and USVI are $119 each way;  weekend $139!!  What great deals!  Now is a great time to come if you can.

And do remember to pack your mask and snorkel... maybe the frye will still be running when you get here!
