: What should I wear in the Carribean --- for nightlife?

St. John nightlife is totally casual - I think even Caneel b\Bay resort has abandoned its "Jacket & tie after dark" rule - not that there's any nitelife at Caneel that would interest anyone younger than 78. Guidebooks may tell youto bring a sweater for cool evenings - but I haven't worn a sweater there in 25 years - If you live in a northern clime you'll be hot a lot. If you are acclimated already - you live in the South - then you may wish for a sweater some night. Bring wild and colorful resort wear (if you're staying at The Westin or Caneel or grubby cut offs & faded T shirtsif you're staying anywhere else - (You'll blend in with the Locals in every hot nitespot). Bring watershoes to wear swimming -that coral hurts when you step on it! Bring bug stuff and sunscreen or prepare to pay island prices for it. Bring a sling for a waterbottle or thermos - you'll be thirsty a lot. Bring a waterproof throwaway camera for some really fun shots without worry of losing or damaging your good camera. Bring a smile and the habit of saying "Good Morning or Good Afternoon" before you engage a Local in any conversation. Don't forget to pack your streetsmarts - it's Paradise and so easy to be stupid and leave a wallet on the beach while you go for a swim...Buy a waterproof fanny pack for your car/room keys, camera, wallett etc. at any islandwatersports shop and wear it when you swim. It's a beautiful CASUAL island. Have a fabuoso time!
