July through October carry the treat of hurricanes and seem to be more rainey.
January through late April is high season, with the accompanying higher rates and more visitors.
I think late April through early June would be very good times when the weather is dryer and not as hot as July or August.
You should also note that there is no way to fly into St. John. You must fly into St. Thomas and taxi to the ferry. The ferry from Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay is a 45 minute ride for $7 per person. The Red Hook Ferry (on the eastern side of St. Thomas) takes 20 minutes and costs $3 per person. Depending on which ferry you take, you will pay the difference in additional taxi fare.
